I took my Assistant Electrical Engineering Board Examination in October 1983 without attending any review classes. I just borrowed some review materials from friends to prepare for the board . I missed to get into the top 10 ranking. During that time, only the top 10 passers were listed. I was a bit disappointed. My rating was only 0.2% shy of the 9th placer.
Out of curiosity, I took the Associate Board Examination back in 1989. Again, I did not attend any review class as I only want to check my competency in the practice of Electrical Engineering. Luckily, out of the 20% board takers that passed, I was one of them.
Then came the Professional Electrical Engineer examination. I said to myself, this is my last card, I need to properly prepare for the PEE board examination. With this goal in mind, I have enrolled in the review classes under Engr. Corpuz. Before the review ends, I applied for the PEE board exam but was denied as I just passed the Associate EE examination. The requirement as per old EE law is two (2) years.
In the succeeding year, I again enrolled on a review class under Engr. Andaya. It was truly a sacrifice as I need to commute daily after work from Rosario, Pasig to España for a two (2) hour review class. When I applied for the PEE board examination, it was a success. My application was approved. With my application approved, I put more effort in the preparation for the board exam.
During the review classes, I always take the seat at the back as most of the other reviewees were from Meralco and National Power Corporation. As per the discussions during the review classes, it seems that they are very competent and I could feel that I am not comparable to their knowledge. That did not discourage me though to pursue harder on my preparation for the board exam.
As I am currently handling major projects execution in my company during that time, I can only file my leave at least one (1) week before the examination date. With the preparation that I have done, I was not bothered in anyway. I am confident that I am prepared for the PEE board examination. Then day of the examination came and went. Next is the report preparation which I have discussed in this article. After a few months, the result came out, and all my sacrifices and efforts all paid off.
